Hey there, bow friends!
How’s it going? I thought I’d share a special treat my mama got me for Valentine’s Day. They’re new products from Drew Barrymore’s new drugstore make up line, Flower. Flower is sold exclusively at Walmart at actually really awesome prices. Her goal was to create attainable and cheap make up with a high end quality. They are also never tested on animals which is always nice. I had first heard about the line in the January 2013 issue of Allure and had to have a peek for myself.
I had perused all the products before I was gifted them and have some general notes about the products I want to share. There are 181 products in total including multiple types of foundation, 4 or 5 types of lipstick, creme blushes and shadows, and eyeshadow quads. So many products. I adore the rose gold accents on all the packaging, but that’s where my love for the packaging ends.
Some of the packaging doesn’t seem so well thought out. I was going to get a Color Play Creme Shadow ($7.98), but changed my mind once I got to fiddle with the actual product. The problem lies on the inside. Once opened, you find a little stopper keeping the shadow pressed..which seems weird with a cream shadow. When I lifted the stopper the product stuck to the stopper and kinda pulled away. It was an odd messy process. So then when I went to put the stopper back, the shadow squished out around the side. The mess itself turned me off
Mother bow grabbed me 3 products; Kiss Stick Luxury Lip Color in the shade Rose Bud, Win Some, Rouge some Creme Blush in Peach Blossom, and the Sheer Up Lip Tint in Dewy Rose. To be honest, I was a bit nervous. The blush color seemed really wonderful, but the blue based red of the lipstick and lip tint had me nervous. If you’ve been reading B&B for a while, you’ll know I have a fear of lip colors giving me an amplified Puerto Rican look. Reds are one of those colors that enhance that fear.
Kiss Stick Luxury Lip Color in Rose Bud ($6.98) – I will admit, I wanted this shade because of how gorgeous it looked on Drew in the advertisement on the display. The shade is a nice blue-based, true red. I’m not used to such a true red since I always stick to wine and bordeaux colors. The finish is supposed to be a high shine, but I would say it’s more of a velvet finish. It has a soft cocoa smell which I like. It’s extremely pigmented and leaves a super deep stain surprisingly. It glides on quite easily and is extremely pigmented. It doesn’t have a claim for how long it lasts, but oh man is this long lasting. I’d say 5-7 hours at least.
I love that the lipstick tubes have a flat edge which helps keep them from rolling around my vanity. The tapered end is something I think I could do without. It makes it feel a ton bulkier than it should. Besides the odd shapes, the packaging is really sturdy. There’s a tight snap shut that I appreciate.
Sheer Up Lip Tint in Dewy Rose ($7.98) – I really wanted this lip tint in order to compare it to the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (I’ll be doing that soon!) as far as formulation goes. I also wanted to have this to try just in case Rose Bud didn’t work out. As you can tell, it too is a blue based red, but as a sheer lip tint. The bottom image shoes the amount of shimmer in it (which made me nervous). The lip tint is pretty sheer, but builds up very easily. I’m talking one swipe. The shimmer is actually not super obvious. It doesn’t feel gritty, but is actually a bit glossy. It’s not the most moisturizing, but I always put some lip balm on underneath my lip color to bypass that problem. There’s a nice tint/stain left behind that is surprisingly not as deep of a stain as the luxury lip stick.
The packaging is reminiscent of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm stains. The sheer up lip tint packaging is a bit slimmer as well as a little flimsier, which I’m not crazy about. I’m nervous it will accidentally twist up in my purse as the bottom is a bit loose. I like that you can see the real color through the clear cap, but to me it feels a little…eh. Nothing special.
Win Some, Rouge Some Creme Blush in Peach Blossom ($7.98) – I love cream blushes, but have almost none. I’m very wary about purchasing them when they can be so expensive and I”m not the biggest expert at choosing blush colors for my skin tone. The blush itself is a peachy creamsicle shade which I’m in absolutely love with. It’s extremely flattering on my skin and could see it looking lovely on any skin color. It’s not too liquidy/creamy and blends in very naturally. I’m definitely going to have to invest in more shades.
I like the packaging in that it too is sturdy and offers a nice snap shut. It’s very compact and I could see it fitting in nicely into my make up bag. I like that the clear lid allows you to have a look at the color itself. All in all, I’d say this product is a winner.
I really do think this line of products is going to become a new drugstore gem, have a look at the prices! I think the products are good quality and might in fact be comparable to high end make up. Expect to see some of these in a monthly favorites. They are stand out products, I will admit.
I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Speaking of which, don’t you want to know the winner of my giveaway!? Congrats to Nikita of gossipwell here on wordpress! I’ve sent you an email and am awaiting your reply!
Have an awesome rest of your week and we shall talk soon!
